What is happening with the counting of votes?
2 September: The AEC is continuing to process and count several hundred thousand remaining declaration votes. All declaration votes are checked against the electoral roll before being admitted to the count. Formal declarations will commence soon in some divisions for successful candidates elected to the House of Representatives. A label entitled 'Declared' appears at each division's results page on the Virtual Tally Room (VTR) and progress can be viewed at a glance on the VTR. By way of a guide, at the previous two federal elections the Writs have been returned approximately one month after election day. For more information see counting the votes.
