Australian Electoral Commission

Over 20,000 students aged 17 and 18 in 1700 schools across Australia enrolled during Enrol to Vote Week 2008 (28 July to 3 August) to ensure their right to vote in federal, state/territory and local government elections.

The AEC will be holding the next Enrol to Vote Week from 27 July to 2 August 2009. Schools will be able to register from May 2009.

Enrol to Vote Week may be over for this year, but you can enrol to vote or update your enrolment at any time.

Enrolment forms are available from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website, from any AEC, Australia Post, Medicare or Centrelink office or by calling 13 23 26.

Remember:
· if you’re 18 or over and an Australian citizen, you have to enrol to vote
· if you’re 17, you can enrol now to be ready to vote when you are 18
· update your enrolment every time you move
"In 2008 it is just as important as ever to ensure that young people exercise their right and responsibility to enrol so they are ready to vote in federal, state and local government elections as soon as they turn 18."

-
Ian Campbell,
Former Electoral
Commissioner
